Marc Landis has an unparalleled record of accomplishment as a community leader and activist on the Upper West Side, committed to the struggle for economic and social justice, human rights and political reform.

Marc is a leader of the New York branch of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism. He has led rallies in support of labor rights, organized human rights seminars and rallies opposing racism and gender bias, served as an international elections monitor, and led the fight for “clean money” campaign finance reform and for fair redistricting.

Marc has provided free legal advice to dozens of local and regional nonprofit organizations, and represented City Council Members and State Senators in the legal battle against the West Side Stadium.

Marc is an elected Democratic Party district leader, representing 40,000 Upper West Side residents, and formerly served as the chairperson of the Manhattan Democratic County Committee. In these posts, he works closely with elected officials and government agencies to address issues including tenants’ rights, residential real estate tax reform, and transportation issues, and organizes Democratic campaign activities in swing states. As a court-appointed fiduciary, Marc has sued Fannie Mae and other banks to require them to provide emergency repairs and other services for tenants. Marc previously served on Community Board 7/Manhattan for 10 years, where he was a tireless fighter to protect our community from overdevelopment and to preserve our quality of life, and worked to mediate community disputes.

Marc is a partner at the historic Phillips Nizer law firm, where his practice focuses on developing and preserving affordable housing and providing counseling to individuals, co-op and condo buildings, and small businesses.

Marc resides on the Upper West Side with his wife, Judy, a television producer, and their politically-active children, Rachel and Barak. They are active members of Congregation Rodeph Sholom.
